Greetings, salutations!

Since I've established that I'm likely to be around for a bit, I thought I should include a picture with my user profile. However, it seems exceedingly tiny, and just gives the impression of a white dot, with dark hair. So, I thought I'd at least enlarge it this one time. Prove that I have features, and everything.

If you happen to be a Battlestar Galactica fan you may be thinking, "Wait, that looks like the set of Baltar's cult...and she's holding something with Gaius Baltar's image on it, what the...?"

Yes, that is the set, and yes, that is what I'm holding. Longish story, tends to be about as interesting as the explanation of my user name.

Essentially, that's where I was when the picture was taken.

Edited: Let's see if I can add another one. One that is more indicative of how I generally look. There's a story with this one though. This spring my husband came home with a gag gift for me, a Snuggie. I was in gales of laughter because there's something hilarious about the concept of trying to make watching TV less strenuous.

So my husband and I proceeded to take pictures of me in a Snuggie. The Snuggie has since gone on to be donated to a charity, but this is a lot more indicative of how I generally look. No makeup, hair a mess.

That way Philip won't be frightened by me any longer! Or perhaps he'll be far more frightened.

Heavens above, is that really you?

I think, if it is you, then I'm going to have to say 'goodbye'.

Sorry and all that, but I'm far too old to be conversing with young glamour girls.

Been great knowing you, and all that stuff, but you know how it is.

(Quietly sobs and dabs eyes with hanky)...

Ha! Thank you Philip! I put up another photograph of me where I look an absolute fright and am the antithesis of glamorous.

But I thank you for the comment :-)

No, sorry but you still look too lovely and I simply must leave. You'll have to treat this as a "Dear Shimp" letter.

I've got to take the coward's way out once again and say auf wiedersehen, adieu, adios, arrivederci, sayonara,au revoir, cheerio, aloha ciao and goodbye ... forever.

Well, for this posting anyway.

Ah well, parting is such sweet sorrow, and all that ;-)

Hi there!

You are lovely! You look like a much younger version of my friend Kathleen who is from Scotland.

How funny i put an "r" in your name! I'm rather dyslexic anyway & don't tend to read whole words but gloss over them. I only read letter by letter if what i read made no sense!

Looks like we were starting something over at A Majority of Two, & rather than continue there i wonder if you'd like to email instead. I'm ready to be "stretched" quite a bit. Don't want to get too stiff & stuck in a box!

BTW, i'm not an Obama basher. I was happy that he won of the two. I was not happy about what might happen under McCain. However, i really didn't want either of them in office. I'm a Ron Paul supporter.

Anyway, my email is 4 katee at gmail

Hope you're having a great day! :)

"Lady Shimp of Shimpshire." ;) Chuckling over Philip's comment. My first thought, too, was how young and glamorous you are. Your postings speak of someone far older - you must be wise beyond your years. Explain Shimp please?

Hi Kathryn :-) Thank you very much. My mom is Scottish, so it makes sense that I'd look Scottish. I got her skin tone and then my father's hair color. Primarily the way we look is just one of those genetic cocktail things.

I'd love to discuss things more, but I'd like to hold off a little bit, if you don't mind. I was going to do a post later that addresses something specific that has been on my mind.

You know, it's absolutely fine that we come at things from different angles, and about the only way we'll grow to understand the viewpoint of another is to actually have the discussion, so I do look forward to it :-) Thank you for the offer!

By the way, just as an aside, if something starts with the letters of a certain word, and ends with them, most people see that word. You aren't the only person seeing an R, is my point. I think it's funny, and rather fitting, my husband is eleven inches taller than I am so Shrimp? Kind of accurate, at least from his perspective.

I make a lot of jokes about, "How's the part in my hair honey? Straight?"

Thank you, Pauline :-) Philip was making me laugh loud and long, too.

I'm forty-two but living in Colorado for twenty years I've had to avoid our very strong sun. That might have helped.

As for sounding older than that in a posting style, I've heard that in past. Thank you, I consider it a great compliment.

Very occasionally in a posting setting, someone will think I'm male, which amuses me. Even after learning my name, which is Alane, it can happen.

Once upon seeing a doctor for the first time, he walked into the examination room, where I was seated on the end of the table. Looked at the chart in his hand. Looked at me. Looked back at the chart, seemingly puzzled.

"You're not a small, French man," he declared, clearly surprised by the fact.

"No," I replied. "Well, unless there's a lot more wrong with me than I currently know about, in which case, this should be interesting for both of us."

Out of the two? I'd rather be believed older, I think ;-)

Alane, you look exactly as I imagined, and you suit your beautiful name...! It's wonderful to see you!!!

Thank you very much, Jo. That's incredibly kind.

On the subject of my name, my poor parents. They loved it, and thought it pretty. It never occurred to either of them that people, upon hearing it, would simply assume that my name was Elaine, but that they were choosing not to use the long vowel sound. So I've spent a lot of time trying to convince people of what my name is not, more than acquainting them with my actual name.

Funnily enough, I accidentally repeated history when I named my son after my paternal grandfather. My son's name is Flint.

Luckily it takes much less time to convince people that his name is not Clint. Oops.

Also, he really likes his name, whereas I was more of the "Jeez, thanks guys." mentality ;-)
